The homebuying process
  • Make use of the tools available on our website to roughly work out your potential monthly repayments
  • Speak to a letting agent such as Townends and compare the monthly repayment figure with the rental prices of similar properties in your chosen area
  • When you are confident that the investment will work, speak to a dot advisor about your mortgage & protection needs
  • Arrange an agreement in principle with your favoured lender
  • You are now ready to start looking for your new investment property. Through our relationship with Townends Estate Agents we can also help with this stage of the process
  • Now is a good time to appoint a solicitor to act on your behalf during the purchase - dot have great relationships with a number of firms and can recommend the ideal solicitor for you
  • Put in an offer on the property
  • Work with your dot advisor to complete your mortgage application - regardless of which estate agent you have found your investment property through
  • It is important that you have a full understanding of the condition of your new home and should therefore arrange for a survey to be carried out. We work in partnership with Tyser Greenwood Surveyors and can help you arrange a survey
  • Speak to your dot advisor about obtaining a quote for buildings insurance which will need to be in place before you exchange contracts
  • Instruct your solicitor and set target dates for the exchange and completion of your purchase
  • Most experienced landlords will then appoint a reputable letting agent who is a member of ARLA (the Association of Residential Letting Agents) to source reliable tenants and manage the deposit and rent collection. At dot financial services we recommend Townends Lettings & Management.
